About This Attraction

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, also known as Sri Dalada Maligawa, is one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world. Located in the historic city of Kandy, Sri Lanka, the temple houses the revered tooth relic of Lord Buddha, which has been venerated for centuries and symbolizes the spiritual and cultural heritage of the nation.

The temple complex showcases magnificent Kandyan architecture, with intricate carvings, golden decorations, and beautifully preserved shrines. The relic itself is kept within a series of ornate golden caskets inside the inner chamber, and although it is not directly visible, devotees gather daily to pay their respects during ritual offerings known as Thevava.

Surrounded by the scenic Kandy Lake and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Temple of the Tooth Relic is not only a place of worship but also a living center of history, tradition, and devotion. Each year, it becomes the focal point of the world-famous Esala Perahera, a grand cultural procession that celebrates faith, culture, and Sri Lanka’s rich traditions
